Is sand blasting sand ok???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's starting to darken up, I think it may have jut been some dust still that just needed filtered out.

Lets hope I don't get tired of it too soon, 250lbs of sand is alot to move out!

I would break down your filters today and clean the impellers making sure no bits of sand are in the system. This could cause failure, shorts, floods, or a busted ass filter! More importantly this could destroy the Bio filtration causing a massive ammonia spike.

Another reason why a good SF is always recommended!

This is just ONE aspect of sand when you don't rinse it enough .....

Filters should be ok, I've got an overflow box and a 30 gallon DIY wet dry filter underneath, so no impellers to worry about. I will check ammonia levels tho.

Quite curious to see what comes of that as I'm planning on using Black Diamond in my next tank.

Moved to setup and filtration.

I used 150lbs of black diamond sand in my 225 (72x27x27) and I love it. Black sand, tank is painted black, stand and canopy are black and I have no decor except Driftwood. And I absolutely love it.

My Cory's lost their barbels in a tank with black diamond sand. I don't know if that's the reason but I thought I'd post that just in case you have Cory's.
