IS SAND HARD TO CLEAN??

I use sand and any junk the filter won’t pick up usually collects in the same places and I just use a hose without the gravel vacuum on it and suck it up. Occasionally I will use a gravel vacuum and put the end of the hose in a bucket and really clean the sand. The sand goes into the bucket and I just add back into the tank. Not really that much of a pain.

or keep a bucket underneath the siphon so particles are can be trapped and returned to the tank

i have a 55g with an oscar and i use sand as substrate. makes it even easier to clean. i just move the rocks around because the poop hides in there.

Well I usually rinse out the sand in the bucket before adding back into the tank so all the crap isn’t in it.

It depends on what type of black sand. Prices vary. I got 3M colorquartz black for I think $32 for a 50 lb bag.

no its easy to keep clean unless you clean it grain by grain.
