I am think ing of getting silica sand as a substrate for my 55 gallon tank? but i dont know if it is difficult to take care of or if its a Nice sand to have,

Can anyone tell me anything positive of having this sand?are there any negatives about this sand?

I love Silica sand as substrate. I have it in all but two tanks (which I used Play Sand in... and I WISH I woulda used Silica, and the other is Flourite for plants). It can pretty much be poured directly into the tank, since it is very clean out of the bag. It's easy to clean, and the fish love to play in it.

I think the only drawback is it's kinda of light. Mine is almost white, which sometimes washes out colors of fish. Other than that, it's a great substrate, and super cheap.

I'd give it a 9.2/10

i heard it can create brown algae how would i get rid of that?

home depot i selling a 100lb bag for $7

does it do anything to the PH or any other dramatic level chang in water?

Depends partially on the fish in the tank...with monsters the turbidity will always be high because of their movement, and tank size...the closer the fish are to the bottom the more the movement.

Cleaning is a personal preference and again depends on the tank and fish size.

If it's what you like and want, then it's worth the upkeep to you.

Silica sand won't change the chemistry of the tank unless it is not properly maintained.
