Is Skynet online already?

I think 1 problem with self driving cars is they are driving next to a human driver and it can't calculate a human response.
I’m sure that as the technology advances these cars can be joined together through WiFi and communicate with each other.
So it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that even a car that is being drivin by a person could communicate in real time all sorts of things.
Breaking, speed, the steering could also be communicate so as quick as a person turns the wheel it could tell all the cars around it what it’s doing instantly.

Yes, but we don't even have our phones there yet.

Sending a text is a little bit more complicated then just hitting send.
The text has to be sent out passing from different cell towers and back to the recipient.
A direct WiFi signal between two devices that are in close proximity is more straightforward.
With any device there can be problems but I believe we are closer to things like this than we think.

Good point.

No right or wrong answers, good discussion.

What about this angle : some people would refuse to go driverless. One human driver on the road could cause enough variation to bring the whole system down.

As smart or advanced as the systems are they still follow preset rules. In the event that a driverless care was run by an AI system that could be a complete nightmare. True AI would involve some level of self awareness. Self awareness if possible would/could/should lead to an emotional response. Now the ghost in the machine is following ITS own rules vs the preset algorithms that non AI would follow. What if you piss off the ghost and pump unleaded!!!!

This isnt happening until we colonize mars lol

We may all be rounded up and sent to a human reservation on mars by the robots. Lol
Thankful I will be long since dust when that happens.
I’m genuinely scared for the children of the future.
I’m sure there will be exciting new developments but at what cost. Humans are there own worst enemies.

I must be missing your point.
Could you elaborate?

I'm saying for some of us the world comes to an end when their phone doesn't get signal. Imagine that happening to your transportation. Many of the same vulnerabilities, except instead of not being on the phone or computer, your vehicle doesn't work, or you're in a moving vehicle. For what again?

I see. I’m thinking about it differently I guess.
When I say WiFi I don’t mean an actual internet connection.
I just mean the car will be able to communicate there intent with each other.
It would be like a turn signal but for everything that takes place within a given area.
So every car will be able to “talk” to every other car.
