By staying in the water column where the sunlight is minimal. Most fish species will be found deeper during bright sunny days, than they would be in overcast rainy days. Many fish like the croaker go to the extreme depths to avoid sunlight altogether and than swim to the shallows after sunset. Any fisherman can tell you for certain that fish DO NOT like sunlight.
Keep in mind that fish do NOT have eyelids. Think of how you would react to sunlight under that condition!
I was just wordering if sun light is good for your fish and also i heard that if you keep your light off that your fish will grow faster !!!! some1 give me answer please
I know that absence of light is bad for fish. If they develop in the dark they will be blind or visually impaired. there was a university study on the impacts of development for fish in no light or low-light situations. Their optical nerves need to be properly stimulated to develope or something to that effect. Other than that I know that sunlight has vitamins but you could probably suppliment those in the water or through food easier and cheaper than keeping up vita bulbs(like the ones for reptiles) they make tons of algae.
I've keep guppies in the dark with about 1-2 hours of light a day, they grow slow and weak! the guppies in the outdoor tank grow twice as big and very strong! its depend on how are their natural habitat, some fish need a lot of sun but some barely!
Actually it really depends what you're fishing for.... northernpike are best fished for ime on bright days, as are LM and SM bass... only more nocturnal species are best fished in over-cast or dusk/dawn conditions ( walleye, catfish, ect) . and most panfish won't bite unless it's bright, calm, and your sweating your butt off.
regular light patterns to simulate natural sunlight. offering hide spots in the tank for your fish to get out of the light. Also the spectrum of a majority of lights is debatable. I've kept nocturnal fish under T5 lighting w/out any issue what-so ever. He did hide most the day but was very active at night. I've never heardof high-tec tanks that the lighting will give you a suntan lol.. causing any health issues, if anything a majority of these set-ups have some of the nicest fish I've seen. which is liekly a compound of a few things but the lighting imo deffinately adds to the over-all well-being not detracts from it. otherwise fish woudln't be in prime shape.
fish don't need eyelids.. which is why they don't have them.. hehe... just like snakes.. they have developed other ways of dealing with it.
I've gotten some pretty awesome pictures with just the sun as lighting. I think during the Fall/Winter and at the crack of dawn when the sun first lights up the world...
