Is Syphoning Water still necessary these days

Is the question, must one still get rid of old water, with water changes?
of course.
or is the question, has a more modern way of siphoning been invented?
the Python, or...
For normal water changes, I open a valve, and water moves to my yard, via a pump thru a semi-permanent DIY PVC plumbing system, attached to sumps that go to tanks.
For detritus, I either do it the old fashioned way (siphon) or a Python.
