Hello everyone, I hope this is the right category for this thread. I have a huge field behind my house and I was strolling through it with my dog and stumbled across some awesome wood. The real twisty and ugly kind that is just full of character. I don't want to change the color of it with bleach, and it is far too large for me to put on my stove to boil, so my question is, is the hottest water out of the tap enough to kill whatever may be growing on it?

Here is a picture of some of the wood soaking in a tub:

I usually put thew wood in the bathtub and dump boiling water on it. Then, set it out in the sun and let it dry thoroughly.

So it is enough for the boiling water to just briefly run over it rather than soaking for a period of time?

Well, I usually let it soak in that water ( because even as it cools, it will still be hotter than tap) and keep adding as the pots are coming to a boil. A couple hours is enough. I've tried putting smaller pieces in the oven, too, but that caused a small fire.
