I was wondering if it would be ok to have 6 angelfish, 8 black neon tetras, and a pair of convict cichlids in a 75 gallon. Or would that be to many fish? Or would it be to much aggresion when the convicts and angelfish breed?

If it helps the filter is a penguin bio wheel 350.

Thanks

After they reach maturity, the angels will fight amongst themselves. It's hard to keep multiple angels in any tank without aggression being a factor, and a four foot tank doesn't allow much room, even if they pair up perfectly. Also, there's a chance the neons will be eaten. Are you planning on isolating a pair, and removing the others? If so, this size tank would be fine. Otherwise, I have had trouble keeping four (two pairs) in my 125 gallon, which is six feet. The bio-load probably won't exceed your filter, but I do worry about aggression between the fishes (angels and convicts) when a pair breeds.

Ok, so, If I got 6 angel fish, waited for them to pair off, then picked my favorite pair. That would be fine? I could put another pair, if I got one, into a 55 I've got. but I would have to be careful about the convicts. Could I put plants in the tank that reach top to bottom so that when they breed they couldn't see each other?

Thanks

As I said, if you're trying to get a pair, then you should start with the six, and then wait until you identify a pair, and remove the others. Then, you could add larger tetras, hatchets, cories, etc. I wouldn't do convicts and angels in this tank. Or, you could do the convicts, pair them up, and choose suitable tankmates for them.

Ok, thank you very much. I think I'll put 6 angel fish in the 75gal, wait for a pair I like, then put that pair in a 55 gallon. Then when I get a pair that breeds, I'll find new homes for the left over 4. Then put a pair of convicts in the 75.

Will convicts be good tank mates with 8 black neon tetra? or is there some other fish you'd recomend.

I'd worry about the tetras when the convicts breed. As for tank mates, maybe someone else will chime in. All I know about convicts is that they get very aggressive when they breed, and they breed easily, because I have never kept them. Some convict-keepers would be your best bet for that info. Also, have you tried the cichlid forum? There may be a thread with this exact question!

Ok, thank you so much for your help. stupid question, but how do you get to the cichlid forum?
