Is there any chance snakeheads could be made legal in the states once again? Is there anyway to be proactive about getting them back into the hobby with maybe a permit in every situation? It sucks because they are such a monster fish with varying sizes for most peoples aquariums?????

Thanks for any ideas/thoughts/opinions.

I personally doubt they will, and myself hope they don't, because of the impact they can have if released.

Possible but I severely doubt it. As much as Congress and government in general seems to like picking tiny battles to win rather than deal with real issues and struggles, I doubt any politician is going to rally behind legalizing snakeheads. The damage they've done in many states is still way too recent for anyone to reconsider: ask Game and Fish in AZ when they will lift the ban on crayfish, and they'll reply never due to ecological concerns.

doubt they will make it legal, not much to gain from doing it but a lot to lose, people still keep them though, then (sadly) release them.

The short answer is no.

The long answer is this: people will continue to have and release this fish.

No natural resource commision is going to be able to stop this species as this point, its here to stay.

It seems as if all these agencies waste so much money trying to remove things that wont ever go away. Not a fan of that...in the long term the best species will win. What we call "native" today will evolove, go extinct or be extripated tomorrow. "Native" is a relative word that really means - fish found here that is appreciated, and has been here since white people started keeping records.

Whether a fish gets into a new area by eggs on the leg of a bird, or because someone released it, its the same. Im not condoning releasing fish - but it will happen and species spreading is a natural process that cannot, and will not be stopped. They are "invasive" for a reason - they are an evolutionary masterpiece. Time for other species to catch up, or leave the scene.

Sorry for the rant...this just really bugs me.
