I'd think they were the same since they are both called biomax, which is hagen's term for their creamic rings... and both fluval and aquaclear is part of hagen's line of products.
Oh, and if you want poishing pads... polyfil batting made for blankets and quilts work well (make sure you get the regular one and not the one thats fire retardant). You can find them at stores like walmart, kmart, or any art's and crafts store around you.
