i want to put a heavy black sand in my 75g. ive always had a proble with other tanks getting the sand in the filters and burning it out. but i dont think that will be a problem with the 75 because the intake is toward the top of the water and out take at the bottom. my only concern is the birchir stirring up the sand. so does any company make a ''heavy'' sand SAFE for aquariums.

goto Belize I was amazed at how big and heavy the sand was there! I am sure that there is pool filter sand is pretty heavy.

3M Colorquartz may work. Comes in two grades. The second grade is very close to sand. And it's cheap.

The problem for most folks is finding it. Look for pool contractor supplies.

isnt that bad for bottom dwellers

I thought that stuff was sharp on the mouths

The heavy grade of colorquartz is good.pool filter sand comes in different grades too look at a few different brands

is tahitian black moon sand not heavy? never used it. i heard its very fine but heavy? anyone with experience feel free to put in your 2 cents on it

I just put 3 bags of the moon sand in my tank. Its not as fine as the pool filter sand we have in the turtle tanks. I'm thrilled with it.

Tahitian Moon sand is really pretty, have it in one of my tanks. My Fly River turtle & giraffe catfish love stirring up the sand. Havw no problems with sand in the filters so far.

I used the black moon sand in a 20 gal to try it out... it is FAR finer and lighter than what I've grown to appreciate... I haven't bought any more...

I have a few hundred pound of Leslie's (store brand) Pool Filter Sand. I checked standard options (Home Depot, Lowes, pool supply stores) and of all I could find, Leslies was the largest. At $8 per 50 lb I was very pleased with this find.

I've been using this brand of sand for several years and I feel it is 'ideal' for aquariums where a light tank colored sand is desired...

If/When I go with a colored sand I will spend the money on 3m quartz. I've heard a lot of concerns from people investigating it but have not heard any poor reviews of people who have actually used it...
