Pothos I have then growing in all my tanks except for a planted tank I had to take them out of it because it was taking up to much of my nutrients and out competing The aquatic plants.

Do you put the pothos in the tank with fertilizer and aquarium soil or can it go under sand or gravel?

Leave the pothos out of water with just the roots in the water. It gets Co2 from atmosphere and nitrates from water. Keep the leaves dry and roots in water with a bit of water movement and should be good.

Get some little plastic baskets that suction cup to the glass. They're bath accessories that you can get at the supermarket or bed bath and beyond. Stick them to the back wall of the tank so the top of them is just below the water line and add pothos cuttings. They will grow roots very quickly and will thrive in the baskets.
