I like to do it this way...

Hardscape
Sand
plants
water
cycle
fish

normally gravel/sand before and then add water, then ur plants. coz if u add gravel after, that'd be a mess. and also, add water gradually, dont add too much at the same time

i do the hard scape then add water but only 1/3 way up do the smaller plants fill it up more then put in the taller plants then fill it. its really up to you if you want to dig all the way down with a tank full of water its up to you.

there is no right or wrong way as long as it gets done.

thanks guys you answered it perfectly for me to understand haha i mean i fish every weekend but ive never taken care of fish...this is a whole new world to me and i find it very interesting!

and about the cycling? ive been told to put "cheap" fish in the tank for a while to cycle the crap and what not and ive been told to just fill the tank and add some liquid stuff to the water and its spose to cut down the bad stuff from the poop that can kill the fish... kinda got confused with it... should i just buy some cheapo gold fish and wait a week or so to toss a bass in there or can i just cycle it with no fish with that chemical in it what a week or so and than put the bass in it....

sorry for all the questions but im normaly a catch and release type of guy and if i plan on havin a pet bass i really want it to thrive and be happy you know what i mean...

thanks

you can buy the good bacteria in a bottle and put fish in after like 20 minutes but i forgot the name of it. ask your local pet stores

that's the new tank syndrome. u shud cycle it by using goldfish. at some pt of the cycle maybe u'll see ur water a bit white, dont worry its in the cycle process. will take u 2-3 weeks to cycle. chek for parameters like nitrogen, ammonia, ph, nitrate

Everything you need to know about cycling and seeding a new tank right hear.
The only chemical on the market that will speed up "The Cycle" is "BIOSPIRA". by Marineland. It's hard to find at LFS's, but I just happen to have some in my fridge if your ever in OC. Shipping is not possible as it needs to be kept refrigerated.

Bio-spira has a 2 week shelf life without refrigeration.
