Bio-spira has a 2 week shelf life without refrigeration.

since when does live bacteria have a 2 week shelf life without refrigeration. here is part of the label
PRINCIPLE INGREDIENTS: Purified water, patented and patent pending pure strains of Nitrosomonas, Nitrosospira and Nitrospira.

IMPORTANT: BIO-Spira is a "live" bacteria culture that is sold refrigerated and must be kept refrigerated until used. It can not be overdosed. Repeated dosing of your aquarium with ammonia removing liquids (such as BIO-Safe, Amquel, Ammo-lock and Aqua-Safe) can inhibit the beneficial action of BIO-Spira. Ammonia removing liquids should only be used to initially treat tap water. It is normal to have a small (<2 ppm) amount of ammonia or nitrate during the first few days after set-up. These concentrations are not harmful and will quickly drop to zero with proper use of BIO-Spira.

like I said this comes right off the package...good job again wyldfya, i am surprised you didnt work the eheim name somewhere into your post...I think he gets a nickel every time he recommends eheim...

I didn't see anything that said it definitely couldn't survive for 2 weeks.

What's your beef? Did he give some advice that contradicted yours or something? Whether or not he was wrong there is no need to take personal shots at a member who's been on here for a lot longer than you that is trying to give people good direction.

So what he's a little abrupt with his posting, he's probably stopped scores of bad advice from being given by doing that. He's rebutted some of my posts before but it was mostly from not clarifying enough on my part.

Not called for, you need to calm down.

To the OP, look more into Bio-Spira; it's the only product that contains the right nitrifying bacterium to seed your tank (nitrospira and a few others). You need to make sure you get it from a quality source though, or else you will just be adding crap to your filter. I have used it twice, once it didn't work and the other time it cycled my tank instantly.

Don't be fooled by the other products (cycle by hagen and the likes). They contain some good bacteria, but all the required and you will still see a cycle.

I find myself saying this a lot, but don't cycle with gold fish.
1) Gold fish are cold water, you are cycling for a tropical tank (I presume)
2) What are you going to do with this gold fish when you are done cycling, kill it? Keep it?
3) Gold fish are STILL FISH. Last time I checked we were in this to take care of all fish, not just the cool looking or expensive ones.

no? i guess the must keep refrigerated is confusing to you?
So then by your interpretation as soon as it leaves the refrigerator, it's worthless?

go buy some thats been sitting on a warm shelf for hahaha 2 weeks and see what good it does you. taking something out of a refigerator to transport home isnt going to go through that much of a temp variance .if you believe what you say shut your filters off for a week or so then see where you are at

My advice comes direct from the mouth of a Marineland representative. You get yours for the internet, I get my information direct from the source. You really need to watch your mouth, and how you fire it off, as you are treading on thin ice. Making such claims, and attacking a mod is a very good way to get banned, and your advice will be listened to right up there with a walmart fish specialist.

is there any kind of order that things should be placed in a tank? like do I put all the rocks and sand in before the water....or water first than sand and plants?all plants are fake...

To answer your question, there is no right or wrong way to do it, there are faster and slower methods, easier and harder, but not right or wrong. I personally put substrate, then 2 inches of water over the gravel, then hardscape, then plants, then a pie pan, then the rest of the water into the pan, and finally a hydro V sponge filter to remove debris.

To answer your question about why he is so rude... read this thread.

I am not trying to argue with anyone here, thats not my style..I was seriously under the impression that bio media had to be replaced every so often. so I apologize if I came off the wrong way wyldfya...you obviously have a lot more knowledge than I...I am no noob though just have a different way of doing things (cost effective). several years in and still know nothing hahaha
