central mass.
I was in Petco the other day and saw a FH that was labeled SRD......only about 2"

But the fish has a yellow base to it but looks ZZ with a rosey belly. Not a fader that I can see.
Do Rd's look like that at a young age?
When do they develope the red front half of their body? I've seen 4" ones that are already half red but never juvies per say.

I will try to get a picture of the golden one I'm talking about but this was a friends I found an old picture of

I've had juvies around an 2 inches start to show the red that you're talking about. It's not impossible.

Thanks water

Where I've only had 2 FH's, I just don't know enough about them to tell if it is an RD/SRD.

Anyone have any juvie pictures of their SRD's to compare. I'll work on getting a picture of her this weekend.

Steve

hard to distinguish when juvies. Color definitely doesn't come through until the kok starts popping. The kok is usually noticeable at a small size 3-4 in, that's usually a good starting point to tell the difference. imo, if it's 2 inches or less and it shows a kok already, i'm not talking about a little hump, but an actual water bump, then it's a good chance it could be a srd. but then again, it could be a huge kok rd....Post pics...SRD's are capable of having any standard red dragon colors, yellow included. They are essentially the same fish, bred to achieve huge koks and full red in the front half of the fish for the most part.

Thanks FHlov for the breakdown....

This one does have a small kok already but I'd bet female from the black in the dorsal..

if it's showing kok at that size it's not female. The dorsal spot isn't 100% but it's fairly accurate. get some pics up =P

I just took a trip over and these are the best i could get before my battery died :(

FHlov, It's kok was larger the other day when I was in, maybe they just did a water change or something. fish is roughly 2".

The yellow is what threw me off as I have not seen this before.

I guess this could be a gold based like rosemead mentioned. I have only seen large ones so no idea if this is what a juvie would look like.

Thanks,
Steve

Thats just skin color, it is slightly yellow but no this is not considered golden base srd. This is just a low quality zz fry. Trimacs are this color wild. Mr pedeny had some gold base SRD on aquabid for like a day or two before they sold. I have never seen one before and as of now I cant find the pic he posted on fb. But yeah they look nothing like this one and are very rare and expensive. I think we can expect to see more in the future though I have seen a couple people trying to do this
