Is there a way to tell the difference between CB and WC?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
99% of all sens in Canada are CB. no point. They are WC unless listed.

you say "no point" ... is that in reference to there being a 99% chance that they're all CB or because I'm knew and learning? ... hmm .... you say "NO POINT" .... I could give you many different points why .... but here's a few. 1. It's knowledge for each and everyone = who knows who it'll help. 2. We're both Canadian, you live in Ontario ... where as I'm in Alberta. Chances are I've a greater chance of encountering a WC it some odd ball fish store than you, as its easier to get them over the pasific ocean route than the amount of land it would have to travel/ship to Ontario. 3. I keep reading on this site how so many "knowledgeable" members what people to learn about there fishes in order to give them the best of life .... hmmm guess this kinda ties into my first point. Oh well like you said "no point" ....

like a said, nearly all sens are CB. how do you not get the point? All the sens you find in big als are CB. You see when you look at them. CB sens look different than WC sens. it's way easier to get CB than WC so why the hassle for the petstores to get WC? If you don't trust me, ask big al's.

CB and WC doesn't really differentate about "giving them the best life." Big tank, water changes, and nutrientous food is the same for all bichirs.

Sorry if I sounded snippy ... but just trying to understand my species of fish more, bottom line. I see you've made the assumption that I only buy fish from Big Als. Oops, there's a number of different fish stores around where I live and its info to help when I go into some of these (what I call Oddities stores) ... which from the few questions I've asked them I know I can't trust there advice. You see I've bought some of my fish from Big Al's ... as I've had good luck with them, but we've another big fish store here called Pisces .... another place I've learned I can trust (depended on who I talk to). But neither of those get the oddities I've seen in some of the mom and pop shops in certain areas of Calgary. and its on that note that I originally asked my question of whether there were signs to look for to determine between WC and CB as some of these stores have some of the info listed in languages I can't understand.
But thank you lix.ma14 for actually trying a bit this time.

NP. What language don't you understand in the store?

Post pics if you aren't sure but I bet they are CB.

The languages I can't understand is anything thats not English or French ... afterall I live in Canada, but that's a whole different can of worms.
It's more along the lines of knowledge, plain and simple. A way to protect myself even should someone try to dupe me into a WC opposed to a CB. Plus I've a lot of family on the west coast and I'm always looking for fish stores TBH. In fact came across some Rainbow Snakeheads just the other day, thats got me thinking of another tank for my house.
So that being said, all I was originally asking for was info on ways to tell the difference. That way I can pass it on to others should they ask me. You see I've many activities and hobbies, besides going to work and being Mr. Mom to my 2 sons. I also am a Beaver Leader as well as a Cub Leader, and we're part of an Outdoorsmen Group (teaching my kids about conservation and such) down by our family farm, and its always cool to have nit tidbits of information when a kid asks. Sometimes it helps inspire them into a new direction.

For example 3 yrs ago, a boy in our Beaver troop had never seen an ice surface before, yet alone put on skates (he's from Chile), anyhow I got the honour of teaching that kid the basics and getting him started. Next year he's going into hockey, and I gotta admit that boy can skate (haven't seen him with a stick yet though). Besides plain and simple I like to learn, and it's info that I see that could become useful someday .... you never know.
