One thing to consider with any fish, predator of not, may be the amount of investment that fish considers important.
I have seen large managuense thwarted by much smaller species, due to what they might consider worth fighting for, such as eggs, fry, or already established territorial boundaries..
The small pair of geophagines below, with fry, easily convinced a much larger Paratilapine they would not be moved, and the Paratilapia had to be moved to save its lfe.
