Is there any gar I could keep for in a 150?

LMB, SMB, cats and sunfish. I don't care if the sunfish get eaten and the cats and bass would be too big for him to eat.

I feed my fish daily, and occasionally miss a day when work keeps me out for a long time. What I mean by sparingly is that I simply don't powerfeed. I give a combo of Hikari pellets and krill and I catch and chop up trout to feed them 'trout chunks' which the fish absolutely adore. They also get live feeders on a rare occasion, normally wild caught mollies, minnows or shiners. Feeders are always quarantined, too. Don't let the low post count fool ya, I'm not a noob. ;) I know you guys are just looking out for the well being of the prospective gar. :)

edit- also, my cats don't bother anything, they're very even tempered. The sunnies don't go after anything other than each other, and since my LMB found out that other big fish bite back (the blue cat), he's stopped actually harassing the other fish, he'll just run them off at times.

Your feeding regimen will be fine for a gar that's 8" long or more, but your current stock is not suitable for multiple reasons.

Educate me please?

When I was reading through the forum, specifically the compatibility thread, bass and sunnies were rated as decent to good tankmates for a gar. Will the problem be the cats? Right now my LMB is about 7.5", the SMB is 5" and the three cats are 6", 8" and 9". The sunnies range from 2-5"

Edit- two channels and a blue cat.

None of them are decent gar tankmates in an aquarium setting although there's a greater chance for that combination to work out in a large pond setting. The main issues with all of them will be aggression & food stealing; gars are pretty mellow in comparison to those fishes.

Ahh. About what I expected. I have to make special arrangements to ensure my cats get food, too. I want the gar but I'm fully aware it may not work out, hence why I'm here doing research. :) I know the ins and outs of the fish I have from over 15 years of keeping them, but I didn't really take an interest in gar until a couple days ago.

Your stock problem is your
LMB. I had a Florida gar and LMB, each about 12", and not only would the LMB steal all the food, but he'd beat the crap out of the gar every time he tried to swim around. The gar could not get air or swim but he would be corner and sit there. I had to remove the LMB and now the far is very happy. You should be fine for a couple years.
