So I feel pretty stupid. I found this tank on craigslist for $125, which seemed like a great deal...

But after cleaning it, I found a crack that I didn't notice when buying it. (I am blaming the dirtyness.) The guy said we could fill it there, but that just assured us it didn't leak.

So. It is a 50 gal corner bow front, and the crack is in the back corner, on the bottom. The bottom is tempered, and the crack is about oh, 2 inches.

So is there a way to seal it..? Because I live far from anything, and the nearest glass shop said they wouldn't help. Ideas? Or could I somehow get away with physically harming the guy we got this from?

I would try and get my money back first.

it doesn't sound promiseing mybe get a plexi glass cut to fit the bottom and silicone it on the inside?

Man that sucks. Is it a crack or just a scratch? Reason I'm asking is usually tempered glass will break into lot of little peices when it cracks.

buyer beware but mabey you could epoxy so nylon mesh in several layer on both sides of th glass and then go over that with silicon... did you fill it up yet and see if it leaked

You could possibly get away with getting another pane of glass, the same thickness as the current bottom plate, and siliconing it over top of the crack. You would want it to extend past the crack at least several inches in each direction, if possible. Once it had cured (at least several days, the more the better) I would test fill it. Probably outside, since even 50g of water is a lot for your living room carpet :grinno:

This new piece of glass would be hidden underneath whatever substrate you use, and as long as you do a good silicone job, should be strong enough to hold. You may want to get as large a piece of glass as will fit in the bottom of the tank, if you can afford to. The bigger the better.

If you don't want to go to all that trouble, try and get your money back. If you can't, maybe try to sell it off yourself. Another option would be to remove the bottom plate completely, and then take it to a glass shop and have a replacement made, and silicone that into the bottom of the tank.

Well i have to say that the bottom cant be cracked if it is temperd. because if it was temperd then it would just shater. And i know this because i work in a glass shop.

That's a good point I didn't even think of that. If you're right its just a scratch, and nothing too worrisome.
