My female Amphilophus xiloaensis was mutilated by the male. I noticed a little bit of harassment before, but nothing like this. She is barely breathing, has her mouth fully extended, and seems to be rigid from the pectoral fins back. That is, her dorsal is fully clamped, and she isn't moving her tail at all. Also, her eyes are looking straight down as far as they can go. Needless to say, I removed the male. Params are all fine, zero ammonia and nitrite, nitrate 15ppm. Ph is 7.5 (maybe too high?). Is there any hope for my xiloaensis, or is it too late?

That's what I was afraid of... Is there anything I can do to try and save her? A replacement female from Rapps is going to cost me $130 including shipping, which is about $130 more than I have.

Thats a terrible thing to read. Sorry about your fish. I personally believe she isnt going to make it. Good Luck.

I have to admit it does not sound good for the female but i would not give up.. add salt to the tank to relieve some of her stress.. and hope she regains her strength to live. sometimes they do turn around..

Yup shes right. Add some API aquarium salt and hope.

turn it up to atleast 82 i go as high as a 86 sometimes. turn off all the lights and try oxygenate the water as much as possible with an airstone or powerhead add salt and then hope for the best. oh i'd also add some stress coat in there to help the slime coat.
