Is there any issues in building an all glass 300gallon++ tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Wow this is some great info guys, its seems unanimous that building an all glass is difficult and expensive but no where near impossible. I have definately some thinking to do, on which route to take. I would like to build a tank in the near future most probably in may, but we'll see.

its possible but ridiculouly expensive.when u get to more then 2'x28" end panels and 8' fronts u have to use 1/2" but other wise 3/8" glass is fine

I've put together a few budgetary quotes on largeish aquariums in the past few weeks actually, just to add to the discussion here. One of them was 100 gallons, 36" tall, 15" deep, and 48" long (yes, wierd size). Glass was going to be $1200, acrylic would be around $800, or even less if he went to 33" instead of 36". Glass would weigh 310lbs, acrylic would weigh 168. Obviously the acrylic makes more sense.

Man, after reading this thread I think my wife is giong to be very upset. I have a 300 gal all glass. I an in the process of taking it apart and resealing it. Now I think that I will not put it togeather and make 2 ]v[onsters out of one. What do yo all think. LOL I can't wait!!!! FF

another thing when making large tanks with frames they are built different to small tanks. they put all the silicone on the otside so it increases surface are therefore increasing strengt
