I have a 20 gallon long tank that I want to breed convicts in. I have a few fake plants in there along with about 4 or 5 smaller sized rocks. Is there a special kind of convict i should buy? How many female to male ratio should i have? Finally, do the parents eat their young (do i need a breeding net for my tank).

I want to use these feeders for my 4 6inch RBP's.

Thanks

just adding a male and female into a tank would be enough. the females have the bright orange belly, the males dont. a few pots would e good for eg laying spots but honestly they will spawn almst anywhere. a pair is good in that size tank. let the parents raise the babies from beginnin to end thy are GREAT parents and will not eat the babies :)

yeah all you need is a male a female and some pots of slate and sit back and get ready to have free feeders for a long time

just add water :)

Id have to say some of this info is great and some could be off.

My cons eat the young as they want to spawn every 2-2.5 weeks

My male had no intentions to breed with female 1, so female 2 was introduced, he then tried to kill female 1. Off to the lfs for female 1.

Then 2 weeks of nothing I had to change some things up
1. water temp to 81 from 77
2. move all hiding places WAY away from the pipe on the hob
3. and most important on the way of breeding, 50% water change normally always kicks them into breeding.

I have 2 floating breeders right now with 1month old fry and 1.5 month

I need more smaller tanks but for now the floaters do.

what i meant to say was they arent like guppies who cant wait to eat there babies. yes they will eat there young out of stress or simple inexperience. a pair will run off any remaining female if the tank is small and beat them up.

getting them to breed will be the easiest task you have as an aquarist.
