i have a red ear slyder in my 150gal. no rox to hang out on. had him like that for a year and a half? only thing he has to grab on to is the weird hoses like over flow or power head.

Because you're forcing them to live in less than ideal conditions (no basking area, lamp, etc) does not mean this is how they should be managed. How would you like to be forced to tread water for over a year?

Ditto on what Oddball said.

If you're anywhere in the southeast, and near a pond, quiet river, etc, and you see turtles climbing on logs and rocks out to bask. Guess what? Those are sliders, and they do in fact come out of the water.

Did your turtle spend a lot of time hanging on to those hoses? I bet he did...because he was tired fo swimming! I'd bet money if you put rock or log in there, he'd immediately crawl out on it.

By "ok", I assume you didn't hear any complaining, but it doesn't mean it was proper care. How long did you have these said turtles? Were there any plants or decorations that reached to the top that they could cling to? Regarding your case, miracles can happen, but most sliders and aquatic turtles do need a basking platform of some kind.

Now mud and musk turtles do not require as much land area as sliders since they do not bask, but they still need shallow water. Not like FRTs.

i had the turtles for a couple of months then i found out that a few of my friends worked at hte local reptile store and i just borught them in there since i didnt have much of the right stuff to keep them
