Is there hope for this Oscar?

Yeah definitely better then the sponge filter in my 29. I just checked the tank and water level are great. So I'm going to move him later tonight.

very much so ... but those sponge filters will do wonders when added to a cartridge type hob(seperatly run , of course) ...I run air powered or powerhead run sponge filters in 5of 6 tanks:)
 
i was thinking about that cause i have an extra 80 sponge filter. i run my 15 and 29 on air powered sponges.
 
I'm sad to say that the Oscar didn't survive. I found it dried up on the floor this morning. It sucks but I guess we can't save em all.

sorry for your loss ....I know how to make it better though... new little guy for the 40b... find a lfs fish that needs YOUR help ... he'll be your freind ,forever:popcorn:just a thought ... lots of lfs JD'S ... PERFECT FOR A 40B
