Is there something wrong with this maingano?

At 21 days she should be ready. She probably is but some females will hold longer in attempt to protect their fry when they cannot find a suitable place to spit.
21 days is average. Some spit sooner, some later, depends on many things. Species, female's condition, aggression, suitable spit sites.
I had a big pile of small rocks for my display tank. I got tired of netting out holding females and instead of holding forever and missing out on valuable recovery time the females would spit in the small rock pile, hiding in a rear corner of the tank. The smaller nooks and crannies that the adults could not get into made it so that the fry had ample area to hide in while growing without getting eaten.

Awesome mate, Thanks for the help...now I've just got to find some small rocks. You wouldn't happen to have a photo of the small rock pile - not quite sure what size of rocks to use (i.e. to what size to the fry need to be able to grow to, hiding in the rock pile, before they can survive in the tank?

Thanks

Unfortunately I don't have a picture bit it's not hard. If you can find a bag full of those palm-sized river pebbles and throw a big pile of that in the corner of your tank it should serve them well for a while.
What I've noticed with mbuna, generally, after they get used to seeing the fry for a while, they'll stop seeing them as food and leave them be. At least mine did and I had several tanks going. By the 1/2-3/4" mark the fry will be brazen enough to want to feed with the adult fish and the adult fish, if fed well enough, will leave the fry alone. May pick at them at first but they get used to them.

Excellent....thanks for all your help. Will keep you posted if anything happens (will probably need you help again...first time breeding cichlids!)
Cheers
