I have been keeping/breeding Cichlids for about 10 years, I have bred loads of CA's but they never seem to bond or pair like SA's do, they tend to treat eachother like any other fish when not breeding.

For example my Flowerhorns breed once every few weeks but ignore eachother in the meantime, as do my JD's and Cons.

Has anyone here truthfully had a bonded CA pair?

Yeah, but I think I know what you mean. I think it my be due to the fact that a lot of ca's are relatively territorial, aggressive and solitary. A lot of sa's are less territorial, calm and tolerant of their own kind. Ime, centrals form really tight bonds. I've had fish that sulked themselves to death after the loss of their partner, and others who never leave one another even between spawns. Then there were those who would flip out and kill their mates for no apparent reason.

I had a female convict that would breed with any CA in the tank, different one everytime until i offloaded her, and she was only just over 1"

She bred with..

6" Male Convict
2" Male Convict
5" Jack Dempsey
5" Sajica

She was the slut of the tank lol!

Dovii has one of the strongest pair bonds that I have ever experienced, I have two pairs myself and know of at least two other pairs that have solid bonds, males rough up the females when ready to spawn, but, nothing too serious. One of the pairs has a monster 20" + male with a female under a foot.

I kept a pair of pearsi and no matter where one was the other was no more then a fin stroke behind. Got into a rough scuffle with a large bifas and lost, that was the end of them.

Many of my Parachromis pairs are long term pairs. Having said that, some have stepped out on their mate on occasion.

Never really kept any Parachromis (except for a Jag for a few weeks which i sold and the not quite Parachromis Salvini) in the Ten years mentioned, deffo one for the future.

my Firemouths were definitely a pair, and I had a carpintis and convict that paired up absolutely, they were inseparable at all times . . .

Yes I think so. My Dempseys are a pair for quite some time, had fry a couple of times. The are together most of the time and the male doesn't beat the female up.

Same experience. My JD pair stayed together and protected their territory as one mean unit. I wish I still had them some times.
