overkill when it comes to filtration or water movement?

just curious cause i recently added a penguin 1140 to my 55 gallon as well as a small fluval submersible filter which already has a 70 gallon tetra waterfall filter...i have the power head on the top left back side of tank the fluval in the top middle back of the tank and the waterfall filter on the top right front side of the tank...would this work or too much?

55 gallons...there are 2 gold / 2 moonlight gouramis (4-5 inches) a pleco (3-4 inches) BGK (5-6 inches) and Clown Knife (4-5 inches)

also have my 20 gallon tank that has a 30-40 gallon waterfall filter that moves the water alot and is in the corner...is that the wrong type of filter and need a small one or would it be ok?

20 gallons...3 female, 1 male sword tail and 15 1/2-3/4 inch fry and 8-10 new fry (i watched the tank and the frys doesnt get sucked into the intake)

thanks for the help

When using store baught filters I always go at least double the tank size. Thats just what I do. Others might do different.
I go even more overboard when building it myself. My 85 gal coldwater tank uses a 30 gal trash can filled 3/4 full of lavarock, and a 500 gal/hr pond pump for filtration. I have that one setup where the water goes out an overflow from the tank thru plumbing that goes all the way to the bottom of the trash can. The pump sits on top of the lavarock, and pumps water into the tank in 4 different locations for better circulation.

for water movement, that depends on the fish. some like a strong "river" like current. Others, it will wear them out and fatigue them too much. On any tank, you cannot over filter...no matter what.

i posted the fish in my 2 tanks...
can you please tell me if they are fine. i also adjusted the flow on on my 55 gallon so its not as strong

low flow would be best for your fish, enough to not have "dead" spots in the tank, but you do not want them constantly fighting the current.

unless your fish like currents no. I lent my friend a gold fish and he made it fat when I got it back I had a strong current going thru the tank like a tread mill at first he was super fatigued but near the end of his stay at my house you could see his muscles nice lean healthy fish
