thanks guys.
i have adhusted the powerhead so there is a little current that leads right to my filters. the fish are acting normal again. they seems kind of stressed witht he strong current before.

as others have stated the more the better on the filtration but completely different thought when it comes to current

overkill when it comes to filtration or water movement?

just curious cause i recently added a penguin 1140 to my 55 gallon as well as a small fluval submersible filter which already has a 70 gallon tetra waterfall filter...i have the power head on the top left back side of tank the fluval in the top middle back of the tank and the waterfall filter on the top right front side of the tank...would this work or too much?

55 gallons...there are 2 gold / 2 moonlight gouramis (4-5 inches) a pleco (3-4 inches) BGK (5-6 inches) and Clown Knife (4-5 inches)

also have my 20 gallon tank that has a 30-40 gallon waterfall filter that moves the water alot and is in the corner...is that the wrong type of filter and need a small one or would it be ok?

20 gallons...3 female, 1 male sword tail and 15 1/2-3/4 inch fry and 8-10 new fry (i watched the tank and the frys doesnt get sucked into the intake)

thanks for the help

...i have the power head on the top left back side of tank the fluval in the top middle back of the tank and the waterfall filter on the top right front side of the tank...would this work or too much? The filtration for this tank is just fine for what stock you have in there. As it has been stated, you can never over filter your tamk. Just make sure the penguin 1140 does not create too much of a current for your stock. But it should do fine in the back left corner of the tank and have the exhaust pointing toward the left front of the tank to create back water flow under your 1140 to keep the dead spot under it clear of waste.

also have my 20 gallon tank that has a 30-40 gallon waterfall filter that moves the water alot and is in the corner...is that the wrong type of filter and need a small one or would it be ok? The 30 - 40 gallon water fall filter you have in this tank will be just fine. With your stock in this tank, you will be doing yourself a favor. The sword tail fish, like regular gold fish are known to be messy creating a lot of fish waste. So by having a larger filtration system on this tank, it might, in some cases keep up with the fish poop your swordtails will produce.

Even though this MIGHT be the case, it does not mean to ignore a regular cleaning maintenance schedule for this tank or any other tank you own. There might not be as much in the substrate and around plants and other objects in your tank, but there will be some and it needs to be cleaned up to the best of your abilities. And as a friendly reminder, make sure you check you filters and 1140.

i check my filters weekly and will do the same with the powerhead and i do 25% WC every week. and check water params every 2 weeks. just thought it was weird my fishes with darting wildly. but since adjusting the powerhead, they have returned to normal

thanks for the advice guys
