this 90 that i have don't know if its home made or meant for something else. the rim stock is not very thick, and its got a separate piece on each side. the corners are cut on a 45 and glued on. my other 90 gal. has thick rim stock and a large support in the middle of the to and bottom. the guy i got it from had fish in it but it just seems weird that they would make it with out some kind of brace. IS THIS SAFE OR NOT ?? if not where can i get rim stock and for how much?

the glass thickness should be at least 8mm thick, and should have frames on the top and bottom with a thick support in the middle that give extra support to the frame/rim so that the tank won't break apart. If corner is 45 degrees not 90 degrees you'll also need plastic frame to support it, with the strength of glue, it is not enough to brace the tank and will split apart anytime.

the glass is just like a normal tank the rimstock is made up of four separate pieces that are cut on a 45 with no bracing on top or bottom

no bracing on top or bottom? thats dangerous, post a picture.

not always. They used to make tanks (like my 40g) with thicker glass and no center bracing. Its only the newer tanks that use plastic bracing top and bottom to make the tank safe with thinner glass (plastic is cheaper than glass).

measure the glass thickness and go from there. If the silicone looks secure and the glass checks out I think it'd be fine.

Why not add your own braces on top (both sides and middle) just for the sake of peace of mind? That's what I did on my 80g even though it had thick glass. You can also add lids this way.

will try to add pics. was also how can u tell if it is a rimless tank that some one put plastic on it cuz he didnt know what he had. like i said i'll add a pic

well small tanks such as 36" or 30" long do not need center bracing, but top and bottom frame bracing is neccessary. Tanks that are longer than 4 feet need center bracing. In addition, center bracing has nothing to do with glass thickness, its built for the pressure of the water.

sorry cant get pic to load. thanks for the in put. i have found rim stock at glass cages.com for $16. the glass is of standard thickness so i think it will do just fine. lookin to house a jaguar ( such a beautiful fish ) And like i said thank you all for your input I think site is awesome and vary helpful :D
