here is little one from that same spot

That one also looks like a black. Where are you catching these? If a stocked waterway you should be able to find out which species is generally stocked.

Well those are generally stocked by someone. Either by the local park services, DNR, or in the case of private property the owner.

Bullheads are not native to California so that means they are stocked.

According to Page and Burr's field guide, with no brown or black mottling or spots and this fish having black membranes contrasting with pale rays on both caudal and anal fins, this fish has to be a Black bullhead.

They're not native but they're not necessarily stocked to all waterways either. They have escaped bodies of water and there are breeding populations in many places.

Not all browns have brown or black mottling. The membrane/ray color also varies depending on regional variant. Bullheads also tend to change color somewhat depending on water parameters and the color of the water.

You really shouldn't come on here to ask for an opinion, then fight it when a lot of people in here completely disagree with you. Just starts the commotion and such :P

I say it looks like a brown also, but hey, that's just me. You can say it is whatever you want it to be :)
I agree, it seems to me that this is more about him wanting it to be a black, rather than actually believing that it is based on factual information, such as what ShadowBass has posted here.

im assuming its a blakc cuz ive caught tons of that type of cat and i had thought they were yellows, but now know they are not and i have caught many browns and none have looked like that cat and all the research ive done has pointed to black bullhead including the anal fin rays count
