Is this a cichlid?

Centrarchidae not Cichlidae...same Order but different Suborder even

the only cichlid native to North America is the "blue" texas
 
It looks like a longear than a green to me.

Looking at it again, I'd buy that too. It's hard to tell from this angle
 
The only way that we all can agree is for dustabusta to catch it and take a picture of it & then post it for us :D Its hard to tell from this picture
 
I dont really know how you guys are making this ID...best you can do from here is a family ID centrarchidae as was already mentioned. I would put my money on Lepomis machrochirus if it was me. But the edging around the opercular flap would suggest that it was a sunfish. Very dark opercular flap for a sunfish though.
 
I can't make any positive ID from that picture, especially with that angle. It could be a pale bluegill, which I doubt but then I have hard time to see the color around the ear flap. It could be green sunfish but the green sunfish usually don't swimming out in the open. It could be a longear. It could be a Pumpkinseed X Green hybrid. It could be Pumpkinseed.

By way where is the location where this sunfish is at?
