is this a demasoni?

Demasoni do not get 6 inches. Sorry, there is another psuedo that has same exact coloration. Often called a demasoni as part of the common name. I have had a demasoni for 3 years still about 2.5 inches. I have had a gaint demasoni that is 6 inches. Look a lot like but not.

i disagree and being a breeder of african cichlids for over 20 years what do i know.

i thought demasonis were considered a dwarf species of african mbuna? heck i dont know. but thats not one-its a socofoli to be sure.

its a nice fish regardless! nice find..

yes they are considerd a dwarf.

many dwarf species can get 6 inches with good care, good food, and lots of time(mine were 10 years old.

i had a 3 inch glow light tetra when i was a kid,it was 5 years old.

first clue that it is not a demasoni is that it was 6 inches. They get about 2.5 inches.

My big bubba took 2 years to get to 4". Nice chubby little fellow, mine maxed out at 4", but it had a very nice beefy body. I haven't seen bigger than that, but with the amount of food one's normal Mbuna, or any other fish, gets fed in their captive environment, seeing larger specimens than the ones described in the wild should not be considered as uncommon. Especially when one talks about tank raised specimens, they outgrow their wild caught counterparts easily. All they have to do all day is eat, poop, fight and spawn ...day by day. I wish I had the same daily schedule :naughty:

I know somebody that grew demasoni to 5" so im gonna side with msmasspoly on this one.Not common but it happens.mine are 3 years old and 3" or so.

yeah i agree i have seen some quite large demasoni's-i hope mine get to 6 inches someday!

No you don't. They are nasty enough at their dwarf size, you don't want killers on the loose. It is uncommon and unhealthy to see something that size... mostly likely the result of years of overfeeding. Mine were 4" and I can say they were large enough.

That's about how big large males get.

i have had 6 inch demasoni... but that was maxed out on a 10 year old colony back in the 80's

Any other specimens among that colony attain the same size, or just the one?

Any one have pics of a pseudotropheus demasoni over 4"?
