Is this a fake?

Seeing this makes me more sure that what I have is a sevict, I have always believed that this is possible, however it is not likley in my opinion that severums can cross with much else outside the convict/hrp/sajica/septemfasciatum complex

I am wondering why you think that. Cryptoheros/archocentrus/amatitlana can easily hybridize with other Central Americans so why wouldn't Severum be able to hybridize with other CA species?

I just say that because Ive heard of numerous infertile spawns with severums... Greed terrors.. blood parrots (this happens all the time cuz they look alike lol) dempsies texas etc.... but the jury is still out on this... Convict x severum is the only severum x ca cichlid cross i have ever seen that is viable.

Severums can hybridize and that actually kinda does look like one. A better pic would help but the body shape looks right, and how the top of the fish where its pattern ends and turns into the dorsal fin looks skinny like what one would look like. If that makes any scence lol, and the shape of the head and mouth looks right to

How much is it ?

Bringing this back up to get more opinions. Especially since chrisplosion is back. The owner is 100% its a con/severum hybrid.

Well Daniel knows my opinion on this. I still stand by the statement that Heroes Sp cannot interbreed outside its genus. While fish does look like it has Severum and Convict in it, but I will need to see more if I am to change my opinion on it.

1. Any other pictures?
2. Did the owner breed the fish himself/herself?
3. Need more information.

Well I am stumped. Still not 100% convinced but its got me thinking. If someone is willing to attempt to breed the 2 and get a successful spawn I would sure like to get this 100% confirmed. I won't attempt it because I personally hate Severum but would like to see others try. Even if Convict x Severum is possible it doesn't make it possible with other CA as I have seen other cases where there was no viable fry. The convict seems to be that magic melting pot cichlid so its possible they are not too distant genetically.

If for some reason this is true then I am sorry Daniel, but to be fair your fish still just looks like a dumpy Convict.
