Is this a female convict?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think it's probably female. It has the look and body shape of a female. The lack of yellow on the belly is not always a good indication of sex, especially with age and developement. My current two females at 2 1/2 yrs. of age already have virtually no yellow on their belly anymore. I have had many 5 yr. old + females that had absolutely no yellow left on their belly, whatsoever. Look at these pics of my two females ----- very difficult to make out any yellow on their belly from these pictures.

It seems to have a female shape, but I would think you would have noticed it pairing up by now with one of those brutes.

female..

just because it doesn't have orange doesn't mean its not a female.. i have plenty females that didn't have a speck of orange on them..

no ?

sorry the notice said i had to engage in a topic :)

I have it 82 degrees. There is another small convict too, that I was told was also a female. Neither really shows the orange. They don't appear stressed, eat well, and look healthy.

well im linebreeding convicts right now, and with my cons theres TWO ways to sex mine, females will have orange specks ( normal, yes. ) and a new way is my female will have a redish tail and my males will have no red tail and no orange specks so once im overfilled with cons ill hoply send some out.

Kok is for FLOWERHORNS ONLY, for every other fish it is called a nuchal hump, please refer to it as such

KOK can and should be used for any cichlids that grow humps on the head, not just to refer to flowerhorns........ so convicts can get koks, and nice kok on the con anyways!!
