Is this a fin disease?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Have to agree that Melafix seems to heal up minor abrasions a little bit quicker than just doing lots of water changes. Other than that, it seems fairly useless unless you like the smell.

I never use melafix.. I treated my fronts with it, and almost immediately they started gasping and stressing out.. that was the last of my product use.

I would bump up the heat and salt, as said. It's really not as much salt as you think OP. My koi tank when being salted gets 15 cups and that only bring the water to .3 salinity- so no worries.

It also looks like your fish has HITH.

Thank's for the advice I've been adding the salt and I keep the heat at 78. Should I go higher? Also, I do 20-30% water changes every three days. Please let me know if I should do them more often. I think you're right about it being HITH. Has anyone ever had success curing a fish of that? feel free to chime in.

I wish people would stop recommending melafix to treat disease, i'm sure many fish have died due to time wasted treating with this trash. as far as the op goes i would up your water changes to daily with 1-2 tbs of salt. if the infection spreads use any nitrofurazone drug and if the infection goes systematic use kanamyacin
Oh I did'nt see that. OK I'll do 30% daily.

I just thought I would give an update: The infection got a little worse for a while, but after many daily water changes and a lot of salt, he is almost completely healed! Wow, my tank has never looked so clean. I'll post pics when he's 100%

My terror is looking almost 100%, I just bought a really nice 75 gal. for my terror pair last night. It has a sump that filters over 800 gph so it should be all they need. I'll post pics of it in the setup/filtration forum when I get my camera back from my d#$% brother-in-law.^^Thanks Rain^^ I feed torby crickets and Hikari pellets.
