Well today, I went to a lfs and saw that they have discus for only $17 each. Is that a good deal? They are around 3-4 inches in diameter. If it is, im thinking of getting one

If you're going to keep Discus... you're going to need more than 1.. Like.. 5.. is more like it. If you aren't looking to keep them in a group then Discus aren't for you..

+1

Also, LFS are notorious for having sub-par discus. There could be a reason they've been priced that way. Do some research about what makes a quality discus and then decide whether or not it's worth spending the money on.

hard to tell without a pic, but a discus that size, for that amount, from a lfs, I would say it's more than likely a waste of money. as water said one discus is a very bad idea. they are a social fish and need to be kept in groups of at least 5 or 6.

ur location says Louisville, are u in Louisville, KY? If so, what LFS are you referring to? Just curious as I frequent all the ones here and never seen them for that price....

I agree. Most discus sold at LFS are garbage. Breeders send their worst culls to LFS. Stunted, horrible body shape, big eyes, deformed gills, etc. I wouldn't bother spending the money, as odds are they will never grow to be a good looking fish. They may be so stunted they won't grow at all :)
