NOLA, I lived for most of my life in Southwest Georgia. So close to Florida that folks would drive to "the line" on Sundays! So, believe me, snow is relatively new to me, too!
 
oh cool, why did ya move? i will never move from louisiana its stuck in my blood and i need the coast to live, its most of my life

Yeah here in SoCal/ Desert cities where we have 60-75 degree (normally) winters and 105-129 degree summers. trust me its probably better in the long run make or dig a permanent pond. preferably in ground. if your summers are as hot as mind trust me the water will heat up to 90 + degrees in an aboveground pond/pool. Im just waitng for the winter to start my dig or build.
 
You may want to look for a metal framed pool, like the ones you would find in target, intex is the best brand for metal framed pools.
