IS THIS A JACK DEMPSEY OR A TEXAS OR HYBRID ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It may be a jack dempsey x green terror?

Jack Dempsey x Bumblebee x Superman

Green Terrors cannot hybridize with Central Americans. This is a Cichlid so regardless of it being a hybrid or not this is the wrong section. If you had posted this in the "Central American Cichlid" section or the "Flowerhorn and Other Cichlid Crosses" you would have gotten answers from people who know what they are talking about.

Your fish is a Green Texas Cichlid

At lease i didn't get Midas and Superman . I have posted there when I first got the fish ,most called it a JD. His spangles are too small for a Green Texas .Here is a Green Texas I got at the same time they look nothing alike.

Just a low quality one, one you would typically see in a local fish store. Its just doesn't have that much spangling.

Jack Dempseys have a different body and facial structure, different pearling (spangling), and different body spots. Not to mention even lowest quality Jack Dempseys have a powerdy spangling on the face which yours does not.

Its just like Flowerhorn, not all are the same quality and your fish is just a low quality Texas. Yours is a Texas, if you do want to believe then so be but I am the only in this thread at the moment who has the slightest about what he is talking about.

There is a Texas and Green Texas and that is not a low end Green Texas .It could be a mix of the JD x Texas. For one thing it growth rate is way to slow . Texas are not longed body but it does have the head of a Texas.I never thought it was 100 % JD ,I do believe it is Jd Texas mix.You are the only one who knows what you where trying to say on that last sentence.

Chris i'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. I don't think it's a Green Texas or a Texas the body seems off and look at the stress bar's I've never seen a Texas sport them like that :S. I'm guessing it might be a Texas Mix, possibly JD and Texas just a lower quality outcome.

Well the fish is only about 3" ,I think the quality outcome is to be determined.

To be honest the young kid didn't know what it was and sold it to me as a Jack Dempsey altough believe or not around here Texas cichlids sell for two dollars some places,so it cost a couple more bucks.I agree it looks more like Texas then a Jd. When I was coming up there was little to choose from and I had alot of Jds and Texas cichlids .The only reason I got this fish is because it looked just a little different to me.
