Is this a largemouth bass?

I caught one about a month ago in a cray fish trap. Yesterday I noticed something about it I never would have guessed... It can control the darkness of its stripe and spots!!! The stripe on its side, darkness of the fins and spots on its "back" can go from very dark almost black to being a barely visible yellow the same color as the rest of its body (which also gets a bit lighter in color) in a matter of seconds. I was just about to start a thread about it but saw your thread and fish that looks to be about the same size as mine...

Took me a month to notice =) Seems that when its "happy" or being aggressive chasing feeders its stripe will be extremely dark but when this other sunfish in the tank with it (and about the same size at 3") chases it around the tank it will turn yellow so that to me it looks like a different fish! I will try to capture some pics of it both with and without its stripe its really impressive to me =P

I noticed the same behavior in my 5" LMB. He turns dark, even the caudal fin turns black, this occurs when he is challenging my GG. Then when he begs for food he becomes an olive green color with many spots. Curious behavior.

I've noticed that most of the sunfish species turn darker when exhibiting dominance towards other fish, and change pattern when feeding.

It seems to be more common in ambloplites species. My most dominant shadow bass are dark at all times, the less dominant ones are lighter and will turn almost white when challenged.

My green sunfish gets very dark vertical stripes when he's challenging another fish.

All of my sunfish get a pretty intense pattern when they're feeding, where you can see every single spot, blotch or stripe present on them. The behavior seems to be more noticeable the more fish are present in the tank.

I've noticed the change of colors, my oscars do it too. I had to get the bass out of the quarintine tank, he was tearing the heck out of a fancy gold. Just the one though. Wierd.
