So I'm building a 180 tank stand, and I so happen to use 4x4 that was 8ft long. Well to save time I just cut it in half, my stand is 4ft tall my tank is 2 feet. Should I make it shorter or leave it as is. And the stand is reinforced so should withstand at least 2 ton.

I personally wouldn't want a stand over 3' tall but I'm short only 5'6 so yeah. Structurally there should be nothing wrong with a 4' high stand as long as its built right and those 4x4's can take a hell of alot of weight so no worries there

No, it's not a mistake. Tall stand will keep the tank at eye level

Lol tank is in my room along with a 100gal African tank and 75gal sump..only for my enjoyment lol.

4' sounds awfully tall to me. My stand for my 125 is around 30" which works out to be the perfect viewing height for viewing while seating on my sofa. However you loose 8" of interior stand height to framing which will screw you with your sump. I've never had a sump so I do not know how much clearance is needed for maintenance, so you might be closer to 4' after all. Either way the stand will be sound, just have to deal with a step to clean your substrate.

All my stands that I built are around 30" and that works out perfect. Go too tall and cleaning is a real pain.
