I was watching YouTube video on Predatory Fins channel. They were in China, I believe and they were filming a huge display tank and there were a handful of large dats. What wizardry is used this get that color, are these just line bred xananthic fish? In the back it looks like a leucistic with some marbling. They said in the video they didn’t think they were dyed or dipped.

Definitely not a natural color morph.

IMO It is an ordinary dat, that has greyed out, or even washed out to almost translucent. It is in a blue tank with lots of coloured lights. And then the whole picture (or video as you saw it), has been highly and carefully colourized. You can see lots of red dots all over the lower left quarter of the picture.

Certainly this is not real.

Most likely, someone trying to palm off an ordinary dat for an extraordinary price.

Cannot be line bred. Although a few ridiculous claims, no dats have ever been captive bred even one generation.

Thanks gents for the replies, so after seeing the video do you still think the wizardry is what you commented above?

In part of the video, one of the dats moves in the tank, away from most of the red light aimed at it, and suddenly changes from red to yellow.

They have done an incredible job at aiming powerful red light down into the tank. But as you can also see in the video, lots of red dots on the lower left reflecting off the glass.

I keep freshwater fish. It helps me calm, bringing some natural environment into my home.

The setups in the video were the most unnatural.

Here is the video for context.
After watching the entire video, I have to say… the “magic” here is the combination of selective breeding, the perfect breeding environment, and the super-good lighting of the display tank. In other words: Not magic, but top-notch techniques and years of breeding experience.

That red dat fish has extremely bright colors — most likely the result of genetic selection over many generations, possibly an improved leucistic or xanthanthic strain. In addition, the LED lighting in the tank — especially the purple/blue light — can highlight the red pigment in a very “unrealistic” way.

don't they hormone breed them over there? same as every other monster fish they make color mutations of?
Definitely not a natural color morph.
i think he meant more like a genetic thing as opposed to being dyed or something
