This question comes up so often nowadays.
Only the breeder will know.
I have pups from pure and they can be jet black from birth and can also be grey in appearance and both from the same batch.
That parent does not look pure to me.
These days you need to go with your eyes and buy what pleases you.
A true high grade BD will have at least some form of good to excellent belly pattern.

he says the parents are pure Thousand Island stingrays. so you think i should check for belly spots for this guy?

Well personally I have never known a pure BD to NOT have at least some form of belly spotting, but I don't want to be the one questioning the breeder.
As I say, these days you better off going for looks and personal taste.
The days of pure breed BD are long gone. I am lucky enough to have pure strain BD and imported them years ago so I know what I have is 100% pure.

Having said that, buy only if you are comfortable if not even after you buy, you be questioning the authenticity.....
