Is this a rare fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They aren't really rare they are aquirable. What's rare is the fact that they are a compatible breeding pair. They are fiesty and I don't know if I would purchase a breeding pair. The reason for this is they like dovii are known for spousal abuse and the change in aquariums and possible decor, water or really any factor could result in the male killing the female. After seperation over a spat a lot of times I have seen males of other like spieces never producing again. It is very possible that they will breed for you for years to come though. So its really your call. As far as them being rare I would say no. They are just "outshined" by the dovii and jag and other large cichlids for some reason. I think they are beautiful and like rainbows and salvinis don't get nearly the respect or folowing they deaserve.

awesome pair, but it says:

****Please do not add bid on this pair further-the pair has been sold and I could not remove the auction***

breeding this fish is actually very easy. Because the male is usually so much biger than the female, dividers with female sized hole can be made to allow her in and out while keeping the male out.
Although not that rare, very expensive. Rapps is still selling 6"ers F0 for $150.

I have seen these at 2-3 inches for <10 at two diffrent stores. Have contenplated the purchase several times. Yeah I hear good things about dividers. I am thinking of trying it out with my salvinis my male is on his third female.
