They aren't really rare they are aquirable. What's rare is the fact that they are a compatible breeding pair. They are fiesty and I don't know if I would purchase a breeding pair. The reason for this is they like dovii are known for spousal abuse and the change in aquariums and possible decor, water or really any factor could result in the male killing the female. After seperation over a spat a lot of times I have seen males of other like spieces never producing again. It is very possible that they will breed for you for years to come though. So its really your call. As far as them being rare I would say no. They are just "outshined" by the dovii and jag and other large cichlids for some reason. I think they are beautiful and like rainbows and salvinis don't get nearly the respect or folowing they deaserve.
