got it from one of my lfs which is known for its interesting imports including a wels catfish, which eventually got put down by the local authority for obvious reasons. hes also got 2 6ft iguanas and 5 10-20ft pythons. Its an awesome shop to go see some monsters as most of the loacl shops olnly sell crappy guppies and such. this fish was actually from the owners but he was selling it as rearranging his tanks. i asked him if it was a red devil or a midas, and he wasnt too sure, he said it was a midas. probably a hybrid of the two. this fish is about 7 or 8". he had another one in the shop very similar but with much less of a beak which was stockier, looked more like a midas and about 13". this fish is hyper aggressive so unsuitable so im taking it back tomoro to swap for another jag

Honestly I would keep it. I have to agree with pretty much everything said here, but that is an impressive Amphilophus Hybrid. It has very intense color, it's gourgous. I would keep it. One of the best fish I kept was a RD/Midas hybrid.;)

im not denying the fact that is a nice looking fish, thats why i got it, but is it very aggressive. If it continues like this i will have to take it back because the other fish are only 4 or 5" whereas this ones 8 and a lot heftier. I'm keeping an eye on it, i presume its just asserting its dominance and finding its place within the tank. The jewel is pissed tho its been knocked off the top lol

I didn't mean to give you the impression I didn't like it. I agree with Scott about keeping it. It has a real RD additude from what you discribed and that is one of their most endearing trates IMO. I myself along with some others (Scott to name one) on this site are avid Amphilophus lovers. If you can, keep it. I would even consider getting rid of some others to have it.

lol dont worry u or anyone has put me off it. i was just saying about swpping it for a jag cos i love them, i already have one tho and always fancied trying a red devil so opted for that. If the little bugger chills out a but i'l probably hang on to it. When it was in the quarantine tank i grew quite attached its got a load of character and could tell even before i put it in the comm tank it was guna be a brute. its all part of the fun/experience

with that snout and lips it def looks like a devil though i have never seen one that yellow, its def not a pure midas thats for sure, more than likely its a mix like others have said but def leans more towards devil than midas for sure, as far as sexing you would definitely have to vent especially since pure devil males dont really get nuchal humps...

Really, I'll have to let my F0 pair know that.

Also not uncommon for Rds to have an extended snout when young, though as most have said good chance the fish in question is a mix.One of my F1 from the parents above.
