The thing is, the name red terror means many different things, to some red terror means nothing, to some it means festae, to some a Mayan.
Yours is one of the xCichlasoma uropthalmus group (Mayans), there are many sub species in that group that are more or less colorful depending on location or dominance, could be the troshelli varient if it came from Isla de Mujeres which tends to have a lot of red.
It is not an Xcichlasoma festae however.

yeah thats a mayan, nice fish, and thay are mean as all out doors....

Well it is technically still a "Red Terror", only problem is the shop you bought it from forgot to mention the first part of the name which is "false"......another common name for the Mayans is "False Red Terrors" as opposed to the "True Red Terrors"=Festae....

Red Terror is just a common name and it is shared by 2 fish. There isnt a need to say false red terror or true red terror. There is no problem with a shop labeling "Red Terror" because they are 100% right. If there isnt a scientific name listed, its up to the buyer sort through common names and know what they are buying. All my opinion obviously, but i just dont think the LFS should be at any fault for something like this.

Definitely a Mayan but, although a little beat up, it has pretty good color. Most of the ones I've seen (including my own) are a little washed out.
