Is this a red terror

I saw 2" red terror cichlids at my Lfs today for $9.99. What size do they get and what size aquarium is needed?

Mayans are not bad fish at all. Only downside is that normally when someone is looking to buy a red terror they mean festae and when they get a Mayan they are disappointed, on its own the Mayan is a nice species.

Look specifically for the name festae and even then be sceptical and learn to discriminate between the two yourself. Otherwise nice fish and don't be quick to get rid of it you might be surprised how food they look.

Should be labeled Mayans or false red Terrors. Far to common are they labeled as red terrors though.

Doesn't the TRUE Red Terror have a Y-shaped stripe after the gill plate that the Mayan Cichlid does not have?

Festae have y stripe and tail spot is different (higher up and smaller)
