Is this a red Texas Cichlid?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
To me looks like a cross of some sort of Amphilophus such as a Labiatus or Saggitae and a Herichthys such as a Carpintis. You can see the Amphilophus in the face for sure. Looks like my male Saggitae Casper 1363949

Yes it is a red texas. Red texas is a hybrid. Amphilophus is definately in the mix but probably indirectly through a blood parrot mother and this fish pictured is the best possible outcome of that breeding imo.
It has the potential to be a beautiful fish but looks like an abused old soul in a tiny tank.

Ok thanks. Yes I'm considering buying it and it's a rescue situation. The fish in the pic is about 7inches. Do you think it still has a chance to recover and grow into something beautiful?
