i see marbling on top of the ray..a top picture may help..either way its a nice ray..

THAT RAY DOES HAVE MARBLING. AND IS A MARBLE. IVE HAD WATER QUALITY AND FEEDING MAKE A DIFF HOW THEY LOOK. ALL MARBLES LOOK DIFFERENT I THINK WE ALL WOULD AGREE. HAVENT SEEN TO MANY 18 INCH ANYTHING RAYS TO TELL U THE TRUTH. MAYBE MY MANTILLA AND SOME BLACK RAYS. O YEAH AND BRENTS MOSAIC. BUT THATS A FEW. REALLY RAYS HAVE JUST NOW STARTED TO BECOME REAL POPULAR TO THE REGULAR HOBBYIST. MAYBE THATS WHY. AND MARBLES JUST STARTED TO BECOME MORE POPULAR ALSO. LAST COUPLE YEARS. IVE LET SOME MEDIOCER MARBLES SLIP THROUGH MY HANDS THAT I THOUGHT LOOKED SO SO AND TURNED OUT TO BE STUNNERS. IM JUST NOW TRYING TO FIGURE IT OUT. AND ITS COSTING ME A GRIP.

I would call it a low grade marble.....a lot of vendors call this grade marble......
here's a pic of a medium grade marble at 7".....so as for the "marbling up" ....12" is pretty big to have no marbling......

Thanks!
The ray that started this thread is a real stunner, dont think it has the classic marble appearance but these rays are never the less extremely beautiful,i believe they do however originate from Colombia same as the Marbles, poss a sub species!

So these type of rays, marbles and chain-links come from Colombia?
Where do the more regular/plain types of motoro's come from?

motoros are very wide spread throughout the Amazonas, due to the ban on all stingrays from Brasil, most of what we have been seeing in lfs are representatives from Peru.Because patterns are so diverse with this species its almost impossible to know which one is which without knowing the country of origin, even then its a guessing game as to which variant, though it has to be said that the ones sporting marbling between the spots are 90% likely to have come out of Colombia and classed as Marble.

Chainlink Motoro. They are caught out of the Orinoco, which probably doesn't tell you much, because there are lots of "motoro" variants coming out of the Orinoco. These guys are very variable. I've had a couple come in as Chain-links and develop over time into more of a marble motoro.

I used to have a group of four of them, great rays if you want something a little prettier then a normal motoro and you are on a tight budget.
