Why have I never seen this fish. That is cool.

Yea thats what I thought, I never seen one before, they are really cool, and I dont really have a compulsion on buying fish I know nothing about, if I see a fish I like, I like to ask all the questions in the world about it, but the LFS I bought it from they had some substitute for the main guy working and he didnt know anything about it. so I thought it was a stingray untill I noticed its sucker mouth and then I Was like wait this must be some type of pleco, and it turns out it is lol.

I've seen them for sale as stingray pleco before

These aren't plecos, but as rightly pointed out loaches. They are a bit specialist as in thrive in coldwater tanks with high flow rates... Search for hillstream and there should be some care threads. Won't last long in a tropical set up. I'll move this to bottom dwellers as it isn't a ray either. A good reason not to impulse buy is these fish... always sold as normal tropical fish, and they aren't.

u in the habbit of buying fish that u have non clue what, who, or how they will eat. nonthless cool fish. if it was a pleco i'd say good luck. i have a lo-18 i think a medium size dotted golgen nugget pleco (GORGEuas FISH) I'd let all my others dye b/fore this one, but he's getting tail rot and i heard they are HARD to take care off. But i'm gonna try to keep my golden nugget kicking as long as possible even if everything else dies. tHe are just the coolest looking fish.............GOLDEN NUGGETS EVERYONE>>ohh gotta go....get a nugget

Yup, out of the hundreds of plecos, this is probably one of the hardest to get to thrive, almost no one manages it, and are lucky if they can even get them to grow past 3" of their purchased size.

In nature they live in fast flowing streams so they prefer a high oxygen content, I have a zodiac loach which is different than the hillstream (built more like a darter than a plecoflounder) but is also from streams. Many recommend keeping these kinds of loaches in "river tanks" with fast flowing water, but my stream loach is very happy and active in a planted tank due to the oxygen content. I assume the same would be true for the hillstream.

Hillstream loaches are best kept in tanks with powerful flows IMO. They are well-adapted to this type of environment than the one lacking the flows which is their idea of discomfort unable to find something to drag themselves on.
