Is this a total scam product or what!

They look like rice crispy treats

Considering this stuff is now on clearence would lead me to believe that they have not been well accepted. Don't think you can go wrong with either Hagen/fluval Biomax or Eheim Ehfisubstrat, from manufacturers claims they both have much more surface area then that of Seachem Matrix.

i have been curious about them for awhile.... its the amount needed that holds me back 1L per 13 gallons means i will need about 28L to see if it makes a difference

Some of the media claims to be antibacterial, wth!????
(This is the one, Im talking about: "Silver Ion helps minimize microbial pathogen growth." The others sound just like hocus pocus!)
Sounds like a bad idea, for bio bugs!

The beneficial bacteria that is essential to a properly filtered aquarium is completely different from microbial pathogens. A pathogen is a foreign, malignant microbe. In other words, it's "bad bacteria".

I have no idea if this products claims are true or not. I just wanted to clarify the definition of a microbial pathogen for everyone.

The second product you listed is a type of sintered glass, grade A stuff. IMO (and a lot of others), it's one of the best bio media's out there.

The cheap methods (pot scrubbies, cut up straws, etc) do work, but when you are dealing with such a small volume commercial products like this will give you exponentially larger surface area to deal with (that's a good thing). A lot of people think pot scrubbies are the way to go, but I think for cans a porous bio-media would be better suited.
